Expert Interpretation: How long will the comprehensive intensity of high temperature this year be the strongest since 1961?
China Weather Network News Since the end of July this year, there have been large-scale and strong high-temperature weather in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China. The highest temperature value and high-temperature days in many places have broken records, and netizens spit out "the hot-formed ripening zone in the postal area" and "Chongqing hot-formed blast furnace" … … So how hot is it in the south this year? Why is it so hot? How much longer will it be hot?
How hot is it in the south?
Since the summer of this year, the number of high temperature days in China has been large, covering a wide range, and the highest temperatures in many places have broken historical extremes. As of today (August 13th), the Central Meteorological Observatory has issued a high-temperature warning for 24 consecutive days, of which the highest-level red warning was issued for two consecutive days on the 12th and 13th.
Chen Lijuan, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center, said that the hot weather in the south will continue in the next two weeks. It is estimated that the comprehensive intensity of high temperature weather this year will be the strongest since the complete record was made in 1961, but the regional high temperature process has not exceeded 2013.
Judging from the regional situation, temperatures in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Chongqing and other places have also broken many records. Wang Zhi, chief forecaster of Shanghai Central Meteorological Observatory, said that as of this morning (August 13th), there were 40 days of high temperature above 35℃, 6 days of high temperature above 40℃, and the extreme maximum temperature was 40.9℃, which appeared on July 13th.
Lou Xiaofen, chief forecaster of Zhejiang Meteorological Observatory, said that since July this year, the high-temperature heat wave weather in Zhejiang Province has been extremely significant, with the characteristics of early high temperature and rapid development, record-breaking high temperature days and record-breaking temperature values. After plum blossom in Zhejiang, a large range of high temperature appeared, and the intensity increased rapidly. Up to now, the average number of high temperature days above 35℃ in Zhejiang Province is 31 days, and the average number of days above 38℃ is 16 days, both of which are the highest in the same period in history. In addition, since July, the average temperature in Zhejiang Province is 30.7℃, and the average maximum temperature is 36.5℃, both of which are the highest in the same period in history.
Luo Juan, chief forecaster of Chongqing Meteorological Observatory, said that since July this year, the temperature in Chongqing has been significantly higher, the precipitation has been significantly less, and the number of high-temperature days is more and stronger. At present, there have been two rounds of high-temperature weather processes (July 4 -17 and July 24), and the average high-temperature days in Chongqing have reached 29.3 days, the second highest in the same period since 1951, second only to 30.2 days in 2006. The city’s extreme highest temperature appeared in Beibei, and the highest temperature reached 43.7℃ on August 11th. The daily highest temperatures in fengjie county, Tongnan District, Liangping District and Chengkou County also exceeded the local historical extremes.
Why is it so hot in the south?
Why is it so hot in the south this year? Chen Tao, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said that the main cause of high temperature weather has something to do with the abnormal atmospheric circulation. Judging from the current monitoring, the western Pacific subtropical high has a large range and strong intensity. Under its control, the southern part of China is controlled by downward flow as a whole, with clear skies and partly cloudy, and the near-surface heating is relatively strong under the influence of sunshine radiation during the day, so a wide range of high temperature weather has appeared.
How long will it be hot in the south?
Chen Tao said that in the future, there will be no obvious tropical system in the southern tropical ocean, and the subtropical high will still control the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the high temperature weather will continue to develop or maintain.
The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that the hot weather in Jianghan, Jianghuai, Jiangnan and Sichuan Basin will continue in the coming week (August 13-19), and the highest temperature in some areas of eastern Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, southern Anhui, southern Jiangsu, Zhejiang and northern Hunan can reach above 40℃.
